Colorado gun-control laws go in effect Monday; critics fume - #2a #nra #rkba #tcot #tgdn #rights #privacy #gunrights #molonlabe
At the Firing Line gun shop in Aurora, assorted guns are marked with red tags reading: "Not for sale after June 30." On Monday, two gun bills — universal background checks and a ban on high-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds — go into effect.

Global 'Bully': Critics Blast US for Manhunt Asylum Seeking Snowden
As Edward Snowden's quest for political asylum plays out as a global cat-and-mouse chase, defenders of international law say the US is acting the bully as it scrambles to locate and gain custody of the 30-year-old NSA whistleblower.

McFrankenfries are coming - #gmo #gmos
Dear friend,
Did you know that genetically engineered (GE) potatoes could soon show up in your fries? People are calling them McFrankenfries, and if the FDA approves GE potatoes (as they might soon do), you might soon be eating them without knowing it.
That's why I just signed a petition to McDonald's asking them not to buy GE potatoes. McDonald's is the largest potato buyer in the country, and if they commit to not buy them, there won't be a market for these GE spuds, and farmers won't plant them.
We need a lot of voices to convince McDonald's. Will you join me in signing the petition to tell McDonald's that you wouldn't eat McFrankenfries?

Hi-
While there is much we still do not know about the NSA's spying programs, it is clear that they rely on the active participation of private companies to find and collect massive amounts of detailed private information about citizens who have not been suspected of any wrongdoing.
I just signed a petition to make sure that companies know their customers want them to help protect the Constitution, especially if our government won't. You can see what companies can legally do to protect their users and the general public, and sign the petition telling them to do so, at the link below.

NSA Spying
The revelations about the National Security Agency's surveillance apparatus, if true, are a stunning abuse of our basic rights to freedom and privacy.
A coalition has formed to demand that the U.S. Congress reveal the full extent of the NSA's domestic spying programs. I'm joining the Electronic Frontier Foundation, Mozilla, Free Press, Fight for the Future, Access and many more consumer activists group as part of that coalition, and I'd love for you to join me too:
'Digital Blackwater': NSA Leak Highlights Key Role of Private Contr actors
via (title unknown) by jacob on 6/11/13
Like the mercenaries for hire used by the U.S. in places like Iraq, Afghanistan, and New Orleans—contractors like Blackwater that have come under scrutiny for their extreme lack of oversight—the U.S. government has been outsourcing intelligence services to private companies who have access to the general population's most sensitive information.

Stop the NSA from gathering data via social media web site servers
On or about June 5th, 2013 national press releases stated the NSA was granted by nine of the largest tech firms on the internet to gather data from their servers. This is violation of all American's personal freedom and must stop.
That's why I signed a petition to The United States House of Representatives, The United States Senate, and President Barack Obama, which says:
"Stop the invasion of personal privacy by the National Security Agency using internet social media web site servers. Regulate what data may be gathered by the NSA and how it may be gathered."
Will you sign this petition? Click here:

CONFIRMED- they're spying on you right now
The revelations of spying on telephone customers are extraordinary --
but it gets even worse. The government is spying, in real time, on
rank-and-file Internet users. From the Guardian:
The National Security Agency has obtained direct access to the systems
of Google, Facebook, Apple and other US internet giants, according to
a top secret document obtained by the Guardian.
The NSA access is part of a previously undisclosed program called
PRISM, which allows officials to collect material including search
history, the content of emails, file transfers and live chats, the
document says.
CLick here to call for investigation of this massive surveillance
overreach: http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/nsa_internet/?referring_akid=.45919.DIgdOG&source=taf
Let's put it plainly: It has been conclusively demonstrated that the
government is spying on millions of Americans, without meaningful
oversight, and without the assent of the very people -- all of us --
whom our government is supposed to represent.
Click here to call for an investigation and hold the federal
government accountable:
http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/nsa_internet/?referring_akid=.45919.DIgdOG...
The top secret document obtained by the Guardian also lists Microsoft,
Yahoo, YouTube, Skype, and AOL as providers of user data to the NSA's
PRISM program.
Those who have defended the government's enhanced cyber serveillance
powers in the past argued that the NSA would have to get the consent
of internet companies to obtain electronic communications -- but PRISM
totally circumvents that, by giving the NSA direct access to the
companies' servers!
Click here to condemn this enormous violation of our rights and demand
an investigation:
http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/nsa_internet/?referring_akid=.45919.DIgdOG...
All this effectively means anything we do on the internet can be (and
has been) monitored by the federal government.
We must not lie down as the NSA and the federal government eviscerate
our privacy rights, invading and surveilling our every move.
Click here to join the fight:

This is shocking
A leaked court document obtained by The Guardian, and since reported on by numerous news outlets, has exposed the government spying on Americans.
Using the Patriot Act, the U.S. government has been secretly tracking the calls of every Verizon Business Network Services customer – whom they talked to, from where, and for how long – for the past 41 days.
It's time to get angry. Be part of a strong public outcry against this program by signing the petition immediately and letting your friends know what's happening in this country.

Thanks
I just signed this, you should too.
If the Fourth Amendment prohibition of unreasonable search and seizure is to mean anything, not to mention our First Amendment right to free speech, we must take action and demand answers in the face of these recent revelations about government spying.
Join me in speaking out.

Fwd: CONFIRMED- they're spying on you
It's an outrage: The Guardian has obtained long sought-after evidence of the extent of ongoing spying on Americans under the PATRIOT Act -- and it's as bad as we'd worried.
"The National Security Agency is currently collecting the telephone records of millions of US customers of Verizon, one of America's largest telecoms providers, under a top secret court order issued in April."
"The order, a copy of which has been obtained by the Guardian, requires Verizon on an "ongoing, daily basis" to give the NSA information on all telephone calls in its systems, both within the US and between the US and other countries."
Click here to demand and investigation of -- and end to -- this spying right away:
http://act.demandprogress.org/sign/patriot_verizon/?referring_akid=2172.45919.ixXGcv&source=taf
The government is continuing -- and expanding -- egregious spying and other infringement on our civil liberties that began under the Bush administration. And enough is enough!
Please sign on to our petition to the House Oversight Committee and Senate Judiciary Committee to demand an immediate investigation of this spying.

Keep GE Salmon Off Our Tables
SIGN NOW: http://bit.ly/KeepGeSalmonOffOurTables
Center for Food Safety (CFS), along with Friends of the Earth and a coalition of thirty consumer, food safety, fishing, environmental, sustainable agriculture, parent, public health and animal welfare organizations, have launched a national Campaign for GE-Free Seafood. Over the last month, they've sent letters to the nation’s top grocery stores, seafood companies, and seafood restaurants asking them to commit to not sell genetically engineered fish should it come to market.
Some of the biggest grocery stores in the U.S. have already replied, stating that they will not sell genetically engineered salmon in their stores, including Whole Foods, Target, Trader Joes, Giant Eagle, Meijer, Raley's, Marsh Supermarkets, Aldi, H-E-B, Hy-Vee, and PCC Natural Markets. Seafood companies like Crown Prince and EcoFish have also told CFS they will not buy GE salmon. Additionally, over 400 chefs and restaurants have signed CFS’s Pledge for GE-Free Fish stating that they will not intentionally purchase, sell, or serve genetically engineered salmon in their restaurants. Together, these supermarkets, seafood companies and restaurants are showing that they care about consumers and sustainable fisheries. But there are a lot more companies yet to sign!
Since the FDA has stated that it will likely not require GE fish to be labeled, consumers will have no way of avoiding the fish at the market unless companies make clear to consumers where they stand on the issue.
Help urge these companies to take a position rejecting GE salmon!
