Defend the Right to Protest in NYC! - #ows #usdor #occupy

Dear Michael L.

The Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement proves that dissent is alive and well in the U.S.  With protests in cities and towns all over the country, the movement is also giving us a pretty good picture of where freedom rings in the U.S. .... and where officials are trying to snuff it out.

We just got an emergency message from OWS in New York City.  They've had problems with the police since the protest started, and now it looks like the Mayor is trying to close the protest down.

He claims he wants to clean the park, and protesters will have to be out of the park by 7 a.m. tomorrow morning.  He says he'll allow the protesters back into the park, but without tarps or sleeping bags.. and no lying down either.  He knows these rules will severely impact the protest, his intentions are clear: to bring the protests to an end.

The Mayor has used this tactic before to shut down protests, and we don't want to let him do it again.

The right to dissent has become a fragile thing in New York City,
let's do what we can to protect it.

Please call the Mayor, tell him to respect the protesters' First Amendment rights and not to interfere with the peaceful protest.

Call: 212-NEW-YORK (or New Yorkers can call 311).  You can send a text message to the Mayor at 311692

In Solidarity,

Sue
